IN CELEBRATION OF OUR 20TH SEASON, MusicSources presents eight concerts and five lectures illuminating Spanish music from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment. We also look at Spain's influence on Europe and the New World.

All events are at MusicSources in Berkeley on Sundays at 5:00 pm except where noted *.

This lavish court entertainment from 1620 was performed in Naples for King Phillip III of Spain. MusicSources will recreate this spectacle that features classic elements of baroque theater: Knights, Cavaliers, Sea Deities and Sirens that rise up from the ocean waves, as well as Sylvan creatures and Gods of the forest. A troupe of singers and dancers will be complimented by a large Renaissance band, with perhaps the largest continuo ensemble ever assembled in the Bay Area!

The Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach

Jean Marie Straub's cult classic is narrated by Bach's second wife, Anna Magdalena. Filmed in 1967, this movie has legendary status and is seen as the manifesto of the early music avant garde. Gustav Leonhardt makes his acting debut in the role of Johann Sebastian Bach!
